A nonlinear lifting line method for the calculation of the flow around a rotating system. Part 2: The tip vane turbine
Abstract
A nonlinear lifting line method for the calculation of the flow around a tip vane turbine is presented. The rotor blade is represented by a bound vortex and the vortex wake by isolated vortex filaments of helical form. The tipvane is modeled similarly to the rotor blade. The wake is represented by isolated vortex filaments of helical form, and the vane by a bound vortex. From the perturbation velocities, resulting from this vortex system several contributions to the power coefficient are distinguished. In case of oversynchronization, a method which assures that the vortex filaments fulfil a numerical synchronization condition is introduced. The possibilities of the code for tip vanes comprise the calculation of the aerodynamic characteristics for a given load distribution as well as the corresponding geometry.
