Assessment of the piezo-electric foil as a means of monitoring wall turbulence
Abstract
The feasibility of a commercial piezo-film as a transducer for monitoring turbulent properties of wall shear flows was assessed. A fully developed turbulent pipe flow with variable Reynolds number along with a separated and reattaching flow were used. Probe design, manufacture, and signal processing are outlined. It is concluded that the concept is promising for practical applications and could compete successfully with other turbulence sensors.
