Structure of HF pump in ionospheric modification experiments. Linear treatment
Abstract
In order to demonstrate the versatility and flexibility of the uniform approximation technique for solving the problem of propagation of radio waves in an inhomogeneous, collisional, and magnetized plasma, the standing wave pattern of an O-mode radio wave reflected from an ionospheric Chapman layer is calculated. Comparisons with results obtained from standard formulas show the superiority of the uniform approximation method. The derivation of the accurate analytic uniform approximation formulas is motivated by the need for a detailed analysis of nonlinear wave phenomena induced by the electromagnetic pump in ionospheric modification experiments.
