Background discussion paper for the development of R and D strategy in the area of joining technology

In response to a request from the Non-Metallic Materials and Chemicals Committee (NMMCC) of the Materials, Chemicals and Vehicles Requirements Board of the DTI, the NPL have prepared a background paper on joining technology which reviews progress to date and highlights some of the challenges for the future. The uses of composite materials, ceramics, plastics and adhesives in manufacturing industry are reviewed and the importance of joining technology to their application is emphasized.
