The evolution of simple vortex systems in liquid helium 2
Abstract
The evolution of the superfluid and normal vorticity distribution in liquid helium 2 in the axisymmetric case and nonaxisymmetric configurations was analyzed. Analytical calculations for the axisymmetric case and numerical analysis show the existence of at least two characteristic times, one for the growth or decay of the extrema of the distributions, the other corresponding to the spreading and/or the displacements of the extrema or centers of gravity of the vorticity distributions. This leads to different vorticity distribution topographies depending on their initial configurations.
