Prediction of flow in a rotating cavity with radial outflow using a mixing length turbulence model
Abstract
Numerical solutions of the elliptic equations for turbulent flow in the cavity formed between two rotating disks with a radial outflow of coolant are presented. The results are compared with experimental data, predictions from the K-e model, and an integral solution. It is concluded that the mixing length model can be used for engineering design calculations. The applications are limited by slow convergence of the iterative solution method at high rotational speeds.
