Velocity and flow measurements using optoelectric components

Methods to measure average and instantaneous velocities of solid bodies, gases, and fluids, based on optical methods, are described. Besides conventional methods, the application of the laser Doppler measurement techniques for the measurement of local flow velocities is emphasized; the latter method is increasingly used in flow measurements. Development efforts aiming at the application of laser diodes for laser Doppler systems are described.
