Comparison of ERS-1 scatterometer Monte Carlo performance simulations using a weighted nonlinear least squares and a maximum likelihood estimation method
Abstract
Simulations of the ERS-1 wind scatterometer by a weighted nonlinear least squares method and a maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) are compared. No significant difference in scatterometer performance is found. Since the MLE method guarantees correct results over all parameter variations its use is recommended for all further simulations, although it is slightly more expensive in computation time.
