Improvement of pump performance at off-design conditions
Abstract
The present experimental study has attempted to minimize flow and mechanical instabilities in industrial pumps when head mass flow characteristics at constant speed present off-design conditions. This negative curve in the flow rate diagram may be minimized or even entirely suppressed through the use of cylindrical flow separators upstream of the rotor. The improvement in usable flow range thus obtained is noted to have no significant negative effect on pump performance.
