Manufacturing and artificial intelligence
Abstract
An assessment is made of the applicability and prospective efficiency enhancements obtainable through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in the automated manufacture of discrete, three-dimensional rigid elements. A simple model for such activities is proposed which consists of three stages of activity: part design, tool/process design, and process execution. Each stage is treated as a computational problem for solution by AI methods.
