Experimental study of the rotational-line structure of a hybrid CO2 laser spectrum
Abstract
Experimental data are reported on the emission spectrum of a hybrid CO2 laser with two gain cells in a single cavity (one at high and one at low pressure). The spectra were analyzed with and without mode preselection by the low-pressure section. The laser lines changed continuously during the laser pulse when a rotational mode was preselected; the initially selected line was replaced by the P(20) line corresponding to the 00(0)1-10(0)0 transition. The results are attributed to gain enhancement for some of the lines by a 'hot band' mechanism involving the higher vibrational levels.
