Two-frequency passive mode locking in iodine photodissociation laser
Abstract
Partially summed Maxwell-Bloch equations are used to estimate the ultimate potentialities of the passive mode-locking regime in an iodine laser under single-frequency and two-frequency lasing conditions. In the case of two-frequency passive mode locking an experimental discovery is made and an explanation is given of the appearance, in the laser emission spectrum, of the combination frequencies nu-sub 22 - Delta-nu and nu-sub 34 + Delta-nu, where Delta-nu is the spectral interval between nu-sub 22 and nu-sub 34.
