Experimental study of anisotropy of scattering of radar signals by clouds and precipitation
Abstract
The possibility of determining the geometric and electrophysical characteristics of hydrometeors is considered on the basis of estimates of anisotropy coefficient of radar signals scattered through clouds and precipitation. It is shown that the value of the anisotropy coefficient is extremely sensitive to changes of the phase state and shape of scatterers which in the case of hydrometeors is determined by their equivalent sizes. Experimental estimates of the anisotropy coefficient are presented for several types of clouds and precipitatin, and an attempt is made to interpret the data obtained.
