One-dimensional nonlinear theory is used to calculate and compare saturation efficiencies for (1) klystrons with length lambda sub q and resonators operating at the fundamental frequency, and (2) klystrons with length lambda sub q/2 and resonators operating at fundamental and double frequencies. The existence of a universal dependence of the saturation efficiency on the microperveance of partial beams is demonstrated. Certain divergences in published theoretical results are noted.
