Stochastic ray dynamics in resonators
Abstract
A stochastization mechanism in a billiards problem involving convex regions is examined. The mechanism consists in the fact that, if a sufficiently long time passes, a convergent beam will become defocused and begin to diverge. This mechanism is shown to be a crude one, i.e., it continues to operate even if the boundary of the region considered is slightly perturbed.
