High-Q shielded leucosapphire resonator
Abstract
A high-Q microwave resonator has been developed on the basis of a sapphire dielectric element in the form of a cylinder or parallelepiped placed in a rectangular shield beyond cutoff for the exciting wave. The resonant-frequency spectrum of the resonator is determined, and experimental results indicate that high values of intrinsic-Q and good reproducibility of results can be obtained in the case of moderate fabrication requirements. An intrinsic-Q was achieved which is considerably higher than the intrinsic-Q of other types of small microwave resonators.
