Dynamics of a relativistic electron beam in rotating and focusing magnetic fields
Abstract
The effect of various types of focusing magnetic fields on the motion and bunching of a relativistic electron beam in a rotating magnetic field (RMF) is investigated. The basic requirements on the focusing system for a buncher with an RMF are formulated. An analysis of the physical processes involved points to the superiority of focusing with a sign-variable azimuthal magnetic field, which provides for stable motion of the electron beam in a rotating ring at the required level of bunching intensity.
