The problem of increasing the efficiency of energy transfer between a modulated electron beam and a high-frequency field
Abstract
Results of a numerical analysis of the efficiency of energy transfer between a modulated electron beam and a high-frequency field in a microwave system are presented. It is shown that the energy-transfer efficiency of bunches of large phase extent can be increased substantially by both optimizing the bunching conditions and including additional fields at higher harmonics in the interaction. Possible ways to achieve an optimal field structure in the output resonant amplifier system are discussed.
