Conversion of lower modes in smooth waveguide junctions
Abstract
The transmission of lower-mode waves through a smooth junction between two regular waveguides is studied by the parabolic-equation method with reference to the design of microwave devices. The asymptotic behavior of the mode-conversion coefficients determined by the characteristics of the waveguide-wall equation in the complex plane is analyzed. A comparison with numerical calculations indicates that the results obtained are applicable in a wide range of parameters. The example of an irregular waveguide with anomalously weak mode conversion is examined.
