Properties of a planar metal-dielectric resonator
Abstract
The characteristics of a microwave resonator based on a planar metal-dielectric waveguide are analyzed. The phase properties and wave attenuation due to heat losses in the screen metal are examined. It is shown that a maximum Q for the principal mode is achieved at a specific dielectric fill factor. The quantitative characteristics of this phenomenon (gain in Q compared with a completely filled waveguide and the optimal fill factor) are determined in a wide permittivity range and for two orthogonal wave polarizations.
