Maximum sensitivity of microwave mixers based on semiconductor junctions
Abstract
The paper presents an analysis, valid for the quantum range of sensitivities, of the noise characteristics of a SIS mixer and a Josephson mixer in the self-pumping mode. It is shown that the noise parameter theta sub N of these devices in the two-band mode can be significantly lower than the quantum light (h/2pi)(omega)/2, while in the one-band mode this limit serves as the lower bound for theta sub N.
