Investigation of the operation of a Josephson down-converter in the self-pumping mode
Abstract
The operation of a Josephson-junction down-converter in the self-pumping mode is examined with allowance for the parameters of the intermediate-frequency amplifier. The permissible noise characteristics of the receiving system are analyzed theoretically, and a comparison is made with experimental results. It is found that the total noise temperature can amount to 50 K in the short-wave part of the millimeter range. It is concluded that high-sensitivity broadband radiometers can be designed on the basis of receiving systems with Josephson down-converters.
