Mixers with planar Schottky-barrier diodes
Abstract
The design, realization, and advantages of mixers with Schottky-barrier diodes for operation in the mm and sub-mm ranges are described. The quality of the diodes in the assembled mixer chambers was evaluated on the basis of differential measurements of conversion losses; a typical loss value was 4-8 dB at frequencies of 90 GHz and above. The use of a dual-diode circuit made it possible to significantly reduce the conversion losses, which is evidently associated with a better impedance matching of the planar Schottky-barrier diodes and a smaller output resistance of the dual-diode circuit.
