Nonlinear analysis of the stability of the libration points of a triaxial ellipsoid
Abstract
The stability of the libration points of a homogeneous gravitating triaxial ellipsoid rotating about one of its principal central axes of inertia is investigated. The two-dimensional motion of a passive point of a single mass is examined, and the stability domain and resonance manifolds for all the resonances studied (from order 2 to order 4) are constructed in the parameter space of the problem. A systematic analysis of the stability of the libration points is carried out on the basis of theorems for the equilibrium positions of Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom.
