Corrugated elliptical horn antennas for the generation of radiation patterns with elliptical cross-section
Abstract
This thesis is concerned with the evaluation of the electrical performance of an antenna system which consists of a single offset parabolic reflector fed by a corrugated elliptical horn radiator. Such an antenna system can be designed in such a way that it becomes suitable for an employment as the transmitting antenna of a broadcasting satellite. One objective of this study is related to the development of a theory which explains the wave propagation and radiation chracteristics of a corrugated elliptical horn with arbitrary geometrical parameters. A second objective involves the development of a computational procedure for the numerical determination of the radiation field of the antenna system. Attention is given to aspects of broadcasting by satellite, the designs for broadcasting-satellite transmitting antennas, sphero-conal coordinates and Lamefunctions, wave propagation in elliptical cones, and radiation characteristics of elliptical horns with anisotropic boundary.
