Detection of surface acoustic waves in layered structures with transverse drift
Abstract
The detection of SAWs in monolithic layered structures consisting of a piezoelectric and a semiconductor film is reported. These structures, having a longitudinal arrangement of electrodes, are characterized by a carrier drift in the semiconductor film in the direction transverse to the SAW propagation direction. It is shown that the detection effect is a consequence of the change in the transverse conductivity of the semiconductor film as a result of alternating electric fields produced in the direction normal to the film surface by the SAWs.
