Magnetostatic waves in yttrium iron garnet films of subcritical thickness
Abstract
The possibility is examined of studying the excitation and propagation of magnetostatic waves in single-domain films with an extremely weak magnetizing field or without any magnetizing field at all. It is found that surface magnetostatic waves can propagate at arbitrary values of H, and even at H = 0, in YIG films of subcritical thickness. At H less than 5 Oe, the propagation of the magnetostatic waves is affected by domains which differ in the direction of M in the plane of the film. At H greater than 5 Oe, the magnetostatic waves propagate in an essentially single-domain film with M parallel to H.
