Investigation of three-dimensional local laminar flows
Abstract
An analysis is made of the limiting solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations describing steady flow past three-dimensional roughnesses situated at the base of a laminar boundary layer some distance from the leading edge of a flat surface. Attention is given to roughnesses whose length is less than or equal to the boundary layer thickness, as well as to longer roughnesses flow past which does not interact with the outer inviscid flow. The flow structure is analyzed; the similarity parameters are derived; and solutions to certain boundary value problems are obtained. The example of hypersonic flow in the strong-interaction regime is discussed. It is shown that pressure distribution in the perturbed flow region can be described by an elliptic equation.
