Spectral types of companions to variable visual double stars.
Abstract
Spectral types for 45 companions to 42 variable visual double stars are presented and examined. The spectra obtained in February 1983 with the image-intensified White spectrograph attached to the No. 1 0.9-m telescope of the Kitt Peak Observatory and in July 1983 with the same instrument used with the 2.1-m telescope, are visually classified against those of standard stars for luminosity and spectral type. It is shown that the majority of the fainter companions are of late spectral types.
