High-gain small-signal modes of the free-electron laser. II. Effect of electron energy spread
Abstract
The small-signal gain of the fundamental exponentially growing mode of the high-gain free-electron laser is calculated, taking both diffraction and electron energy spread into account. As the electron beam radius is reduced, the gain bandwidth increases by a large amount. However, the tolerance of the gain to energy spread shows only a small increase.
