Coherence of laser radiation in the atmosphere
Abstract
Coherence breakdowns and phase fluctuations of optical waves propagating in the atmosphere are investigated. Methods for describing phase distortions and related characteristics in a spatially bounded beam are examined. The effect of initial coherence of the sources, the meteorological conditions of propagation, and atmospheric turbulence on laser radiation is studied. Methods are proposed for determining turbulence parameters on the basis of measurements of laser-beam coherence breakdown and phase fluctuation.
