Current status of physical state effects on stopping power
Abstract
Recent evidence concerning the effect of physical state on stopping power is reviewed and compared to earlier results. Phase effects depend on the type of material. For H 2O and organic materials, stopping cross-sections are larger in the vapour phase than in the condensed phase by up to ~ 5-10% at stopping power maximum for H and He ions. At lower energies, the situation is still uncertain.
