Microwave frequency sources employing shallow bulk acoustic wave devices
Abstract
Shallow bulk acoustic waves (SBAW) devices are reviewed in connection with the impact these devices will have in the field of microwave frequency oscillators. Acoustic devices of this type offer frequency generation at UHF through S-band directly, and C- through X-band by use of harmonics and/or a low order of multiplication. Significant size, power and cost savings are the consequences, together with much improved performance characteristics. The capability of the technology is presented and specified examples are given.
