Determination of the physical properties of stony meteorites applied to the study of their destruction processes.
Abstract
The densities and strain-resistance and thermal properties of specimens from six stony meteorites (Krymka, Elenovka, Tsarev, Kunashak, Kyushu, and Pultusk) were determined. Structure-dependent changes in the properties of these meteorites were defined. The results obtained make possible improved numerical evaluations of processes connected with the deformation and destruction of meteorite bodies and the dispersion of the fragmented material. It is shown that meteorite destruction should occur primarily along the boundaries of the structural components, where the binding strength is 10 times less than the strength of monoliths.
