A New Injection Method for Microtrons
Abstract
A new injection method for microtrons using a modified TM(010)-mode cavity is discussed. The proposed cavity has a wedge-shaped end plate on which the cathode is located. The geometric parameters are defined and the relativistic equations of electron motion in the cavity are given. Computer simulations of electron motion were performed to examine whether or not the electron enters the phase-stable cavity. A microtron using this cavity with an 8 mm phi cathode can be expected to yield a pulsed current of about 400 mA.
