The spectral intensities from hydrogen-like ions. II
Abstract
Predictions of the ratios of the apparent intensities of the two components of the 1s 2S(1/2)-2p 2P(1/2, 3/2) Lyman-alpha doublet of H-like ions are presented, extending earlier calculations to ions of higher charge. The results show how this ratio departs from its statistical value of 0.5 in certain density ranges and how the plasma temperature affects the values. The necessity of including the influence of the magnetic dipole transition and the corresponding satellite lying sufficiently close to the Lyman-alpha doublet to be indistinguishable from it is demonstrated. The effects of other constituents of the plasma on the intensity ratio are studied. The ratios for a plasma composed of deuterium and one containing helium would differ by a few percent.
