Radiation pattern analysis of reflector antennas
Abstract
A method for computing systematically the radiation pattern of a reflector antenna in the entire angular region from the main beam direction to the off-axis region, is proposed. In this method, the error in the physical optics method is compensated by the equivalent edge currents near the reflector edge, which are expressed explicitly in terms of the incident wave vector. It is shown that because of the expression analyses of an arbitrary reflector and an arbitrary primary radiator become easy. By applying the method to the problem of diffraction by a circular disk for which an exact solution exists, its accuracy is tested. The results by the present method are found to approach those obtained by the physical optics approximation near the main beam and those obtained by the geometrical theory of diffraction in the off-axis region. Examples of analysis of various reflector antennas are given.
