Design and characteristics of sector/cosecant-square shaped beam antenna
Abstract
A method for shaping the reflector surface of a base station radio antenna to form two separate beams in the horizontal and vertical planes, is described. The cross section of the two-dimensional geometric optics problem is used to determine the reflector coordinates according to the elevation angle of the ray at the surface. The test antenna is a 90 degree sector beam antenna having an aperture of about 52 lambda in the vertical plane and about 43 lambda in the horizontal plane. Experimental results yielded a gain of 23.5 dB at the peak and more than 20 dB within an angle of 1.5 degree in the vertical plane. A black and white photograph of the test antenna is provided.
