New active media for tunable crystal lasers
Abstract
The performance characteristics of various laser materials based on doped alkali-halide crystals are briefly discussed. The materials examined include lithium fluoride crystals with hydroxyl, Me(2+)-doped lithium fluoride crystals, Me(2+)-doped sodium fluoride crystals, and lithium fluoride crystals containing optically stable F2 color centers. Attention is also given to an implementation of passive Q-switches using alkali-halide color center lasers.
