Search for an excess of showers from the Crab Nebula and CYG X-3
Abstract
A search for gamma quanta with energies greater than 10 to the 14th eV from the Crab Nebula and the pulsar Cyg X-3 was made on the basis of EAS data for 1974-1982, comprising 75,000 showers. It is assumed that, if gamma quanta with such energies are emitted by these sources, they should generate electron-photon cascades in the earth atmosphere which would be contained in low-muon extensive air showers. The distribution of the fraction of muonless showers in the direction of the Crab Nebula and Cyg X-3 is plotted.
