On the theory of interphase convection
Abstract
A method is proposed for analyzing weakly linear problems of interphase convection occurring at the interface of inmiscible fluids due to the Marangoni instability. The method allows for the main and nearest lateral harmonics in Fourier series expansion for the variables and makes it possible to determine the linear scale, frequency, and amplitude of convective motions. A problem concerning thermocapillary convection in a two-layer system with a nonlinearity associated with the temperature dependence of the surface tension coefficient is analyzed as an example.
