Frequency tuneable ring wave pulser
Abstract
A pulse generation system which delivers a damped sinusoidal frequency tunable waveform of 10-kHz to 100 MHz is described. The system incorporates a tunable signal generator, a pulse generator, and a pulse shaping network whose outputs are combined in a balanced mixer to provide the classic damped sine wave output. The principle limitation of the system is the power amplifier in which increasing power enhances the open circuit voltage and short circuit current. Experimental data suggest that output levels as high as 800-1000 volts and 7 amperes can be achieved with 400 watts of input power. A functional block diagram of the pulse generation system is provided.
