A variational analysis of dielectric waveguides by the conformal mapping technique
Abstract
The vector variational finite-element method in conjunction with the conformal mapping technique (CMT) has been established for analyzing problems which extend to infinity. The CMT is used to improve the modeling of the region exterior to the modes, thus making it possible to obtain more accurate results for the modes near the cutoff region. The method has been applied to handle a wide variety of dielectric waveguide structures which are symmetric with respect to the vertical center plane. Numerical results are given for rectangular, strip, and channel waveguides.
