The optimal retry distribution for lightly loaded slotted Aloha systems
Abstract
A lightly loaded slotted Aloha system that is operating far below capacity and the problem of minimizing packet delay in the event of a collision are examined. The optimal retry distribution that minimizes the average delay experienced by colliding packets is found. It is shown that the distribution has finite support and that it is not necessary to wait more than three slots before retransmitting.
