The acquisition and synchronization control procedures for the Intelsat TDMA system
Abstract
The controlling procedures, which govern the acquisition, synchronization, and monitoring of all bursts in the TDMA system, are described. The controlling procedures operate only in reference terminals, and in order to perform their functions each reference burst contains a service channel (SC) and a control and delay channel (CDC). The control information is transmitted to controlled terminals on a repetitive basis through the CDC. The terminal synchronization support (TSS) procedure, which performs steady-state synchronization of traffic terminals, and the methods of acquisition of a controlled terminal are examined. The synchronization control technique and its multiframe timing system are discussed. The use of the SDNTX generation procedure to monitor all the bursts received for possible malfunctions is examined.
