The Intelsat TDMA/DSI system
Abstract
The development of the Intelsat TDMA/DSI system as an efficient and flexible modulation/access technique is explained. The system consists of eight independent TDMA networks; each network is composed of four reference stations, a satellite, and a number of traffic terminals. The functions of the reference stations and traffic terminals are described. An explanation of the frame, which contains two reference bursts and traffic bursts, is given. The functions of the Intelsat Operations Center TDMA Facility (IOCTF), which is the organizational center for the TDMA system, are discussed.
