FEL oscillator performance optimization with astigmatic e beams
Abstract
A model is presented for an FEL amplifier with an astigmatic electron beam propagating through a linearly polarized, linearly tapered wiggler. The model is used to examine FEL resonator performance as a function of e-beam focusing in the wiggle plane perpendicular to the plane of polarization of the magnets.
