Protocols for NTT high-speed and multiplexed switched service by the CS-2 satellite
Abstract
Services/protocols, user interfaces and new protocols for multipoint, reserved circuit, asymmetric and simplex communications by means of the Japanese CS-2 satellite are described. The services are configured with 1-3 or 1-7 layer protocols and high speed circuit-switching. Variable bit rates from 64 - 6144 kbps, user-user data transfer and incoming call indication are provided. The protocols are assigned according to service complexity, e.g., terminal-terminal links, multipoint interfaces, and high speed multiplexed operations. Techniques for controlling call traffic, reserving channels, accommodating backward data transmission, and allowing access to terminals which are not part of a leased network are discussed. The services are scheduled to begin commercial operations in 1986 and be augmented by a CS-3 satellite in 1988.
