Mode structure of short-wave signals during the transitional time of day
Abstract
The amplitude-frequency features of the focusing of the 2F2 mode are investigated and the time differences of the first appearances or disappearances of the 1F2 and 2F2 modes at sunrise or sunset are determined on the basis of experimental measurements and model calculations for midlatitude short-wave paths. Results confirm the applicability of the ray-tracing approximation in problems of radio propagation on paths as long as 3000 km.
