Variations of the E-layer and of the "valley" at day time.
Abstract
Observed changes in the height of the E-layer and 'valley' are explained by considering excited NO(+) ions with a low recombination coefficient. It is shown that the height dependence on solar zenith angle, season, latitude, and solar activity can be explained in this way along with such phemonena in the E-layer as the seasonal anomaly and decrease of electron density in the layer maximum during geomagnetic disturbances.
